For these last few years it has been very difficult to source used bourbon barrels as the US distillers have developed long-term contracts with European distillers to sell their used barrels, which has made it difficult for independent cooperages like us to get hold of them in decent volumes. We have been able to get hold of a few hundered used bourbon barrels now with more competitive prices than we have seen in recent times, so to all our clients who have been asking for them for the last few years, now is the time to get hold of them. At the moment we can only guarantee these better prices on a batch per batch basis as future availability of bourbon barrels is still unclear.
You can see from the photos that the recent batch we have taken delivery of are in pretty decent condition – as ever we will individually check every single barrels ourselves and make any repairs necessary to make sure that they are ready to fill. The barrels as pictured have not been tidied up and here you can see the original condition in which we received them.
Used bourbon barrels are not really our speciality, as our main focus has always been supplying used Port wine barrels and used Madeira barrels (as well as new barrels of course. However a lot of our clients want to be able to source their different new and used barrels from one trusted source and bourbon barrels are some of the most requested options, so it has been increasingly important for us to have a stock of used bourbon barrels to complement our Portuguese used barrel options.
As ever, we always encourage our clients (new and pre-existing) to make the trip out to Portugal to visit our cooperage so that you can see the quality of our barrel stock for themselves. Every barrel that leaves our cooperage is guaranteed ready-to-fill and authentic!
