We sell quite a number of used barrels to be used as bar tables – the most popular is 225 litre barrels, which are 95 cm high with a head diameter of 70cm, which are a convenient size for holding drinks and so for a standing crowd. Generally we supply used wine barrels (oak) for this purpose which can either be supplied as they are (with a few red wine stains and scuffs), or we can sand them and repaint the hoops to make them look a lot smarter. There is another option howevever, which is to use much thinner ‘cigar’ barrels made from chestnut, but with a table top attached to them (for which we normally use pine (as shown in the image below). The advantage of this system is that you get a flatter top surface to hold drinks and so on, but also there is more space under the table top to fit your legs (with the standard 225 litre barrels, the bilge (belly) of the barrel means it is not so easy to cosy up against the barrel).
Often these cigar barrel tables are used for bars or cafés and we can add the branding to them as required.
Below you can see used 225 litre wine barrels that have been sanded and the hoops repainted. You can see that there are still a few scuff marks, but they are almost as good as new. Then if you really want the barrels to look super smart, we can varnish them like in the bottom photo.
